The culture surrounding videogaming has exploded with the advent of gaming website forums and comments, professional gaming blogs, social networking sites, and of course, podcasts. In many ways this torrent of constant info has been good for gamers, offering us a glimpse into the personalities behind our favorite games, gaming companies, and journalists. On the other hand, we've also become inundated with discussions about quarterly earnings of faceless corporations, NPD reports, and endless rants about a hype-machine that the gaming media itself creates! What's a person who cares about games to do?

WillyBeans and DocBrown have been talking about this kind of stuff for years. They've decided that they could make a contribution to gaming culture by airing their discussions in the form of a weekly podcast titled 'Gaming the Media'. It's a completely unofficial (and unprofessional) discussion about games and the gaming 'press' by two buddies unaffiliated with said industry. It's not intended to be a rant but rather a look at the good and the bad of gaming culture.

DocBrown is a scientist living in the Eastern United States. He cut his teeth gaming on early PCs and the NES, and has been a 'hardcore' gamer for over two decades. Having become infatuated with RPGs after playing of Dragon Warrior on the NES and the old 'Gold Box' Dungeons and Dragons games on PC, they now make up a large part of his gaming time. Also, given that he was a teen during the release of DOOM, he's also got a healthy appreciation for shooters.
